Sayings On AdviceGreat inspirational sayings on advice that give you many aspects to consider and to use as your way of not only understanding the elements of advice, but, in some case, how to properly give it. Bessie Stanley When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares. We should be careful and discriminating in all the advice we give. We should be especially careful in giving advice that we would not think of following ourselves. Most of all, we ought to avoid giving counsel which we don't follow when it damages those who take us at our word. Good advice is always certain to be ignored, but that's no reason not to give it. Anyone who proposes to do good must not expect people to roll stones out of his way, but must accept his lot calmly if they even roll a few more upon it. When a man comes to me for advice, I find out the kind of advice he wants, and I give it to him. Old men are fond of giving good advice, to console themselves for being no longer in a position to give bad examples. The true secret of giving advice is, after you have honestly given it, to be perfectly indifferent whether it is taken or not, and never persist in trying to set people right. |
